Service Functionality

The Service Functionality section describes the business function(s) and the real world effect(s) that result from invoking these business functions from a business point of view, i.e., from the point of view of consumer organizations that will use the service to conduct their business. NOTE: A service can have more than one business function. Each service function can usually (but not always) be mapped to an operation defined as a part of the service's interface; i.e., service functions provide a "business view" and operations provide a "technical view" of service activity.

The Service Functionality page contains the following information for each business function:

  • Business Function (required): A characteristic action or activity that the service performs to achieve a real world effect.
  • Real World Effect: An ultimate purpose associated with interacting with the service; the effect that results from invoking the function.
